Sorry for the delay in sharing this update – it’s been a long process, but the greenhouse on our vegetable meadow was finally completed at the end of 2024.

What makes this greenhouse special is not just its purpose, but its unique architectural style. The structure is based on a self-supporting roof design – inspired by reciprocal frame roofs. These kinds of roofs use an interlocking system where each beam supports the next in a circular pattern, creating stability through balance. We adapted this technique by using standard beams with carved notches instead of round timber.

The idea came from Johannes – who, by the way, is not a trained carpenter. He simply found the concept charming and visually striking, and decided to take it on. With support from the group, and a lot of determination, we began the construction. And yes – it collapsed more than once.

The process tested his patience and problem-solving skills. But with every setback, he learned and adjusted. The sense of relief and happiness when the structure finally stood firm was hard to describe.

Now, the greenhouse is ready to support our seedling production. The Mandala bed nearby will soon be filled with vegetables and a few unique plants we've been eager to try. It's a space that not only helps our cultivation efforts but also reflects the creativity and perseverance behind Valdonedo.
